Osgrid and opensim instructions

To visit our 4 sim 260,000 sq m recreation of Belfast, Ireland and associated sims you will need an id from Osgrid and a compatible viewer.
To set up your own Opensim, either on your home computer or as part of a larger grid, you will need the opensim.exe and a compiler.
When you arrive on the Osgrid you will not have your SL inventory, use the map search facility and search for Belfast or Ireland where you can find freebies. All relevant links are below.

Viewers

These viewers are all very similar with slight advantages and disadvantages peculiar to each, we can only advise that you use the one best suited to your needs.

The Emerald viewer is currently the most popular alternative viewer used on SL it is fast and highly functional but has some unresolved texture import issues and avatar rezzing problems on Osgrid. It will not let you export inventory objects unless the are wholly created by you.

The Imprudence viewer is very similar to Emerald with better avatar rendering on Osgrid it has recently been added to the Osgrid approved viewer list they have assured us that the gridjump feature from Meerkat viewer is a priority in their development they do a weekly update featuring a user generated distro some of these are interesting to say the least.

The Meerkat viewer is now discontinued which is a shame. Here is a legacy version it is very unstable on both SL and Opensim but has the wonderful feature of being able to gridjump from SL to other grids and you can use it to export full perm objects from SL created by others.
Meerkat_0-2-2-211_optimized_Setup.exe

THe Hippo viewer is a very stable distro with limited functionality perfect for your first look at Osgrid but has no import/export facilities and media streaming is a problem

The Coolvl viewer has some nice features especially the draw distance incorporated in the camera view controls it also allows linked objects that u didnt create but are copy/mod/trans to be exported/imported
