I'm 43 years old, but I've only started playing as a solo performer in the last 2 years, and only this year with any regularity. I had written two songs and an instrumental way back in the late 80s, but in ths last two years, and especially this year I've been writing a fair bit more. I now have about 45-60 minutes of my own material.
After a single gig a year with a mate's band in 2005 and 2006, I reckoned I had to try and do a bit more performing, so I've played the John Hewitt open mic a number of times, the Pavilion, and of course, the Rott a few times.
Influences - hard to say - I know who I like, but I can't say whether they influence my music. Here's a sample - The Beatles, Bowie, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Leonard Cohen, The Pretenders, Horslips, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Burl Ives, Charles Trenet, plus people I've discovered more recently - Tommy Emmanuel, Ani diFranco, Fionn Regan, Jolie Holland, Colin Reid, etc etc.
It's nearly all about the songs for me. I just want to play my own music and the odd cover I might feel inspired to tackle.
